Professor Mike Griffin, founder of MyPrintPod

At MyPrintPod, we believe that manufacturing should be more accessible, more sustainable, and more responsive to the needs of modern innovators. The company was founded by Professor Mike Griffin to combine advanced engineering, digital manufacturing, and sustainability into a practical service that helps organisations turn ideas into real products.

Mike has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of technology, engineering, innovation, and commercialisation. His career spans academia, industry, research, and entrepreneurship, providing a unique perspective on how emerging technologies can be translated into real-world impact.

As a Professor, engineer, researcher, and entrepreneur, Mike has led and contributed to projects across additive manufacturing, advanced sensing systems, wireless communications, artificial intelligence, sustainability technologies, and product development.

Throughout his career, he has worked with organisations ranging from early-stage startups and SMEs to multinational corporations, helping teams navigate the journey from concept to deployment.

Building better products through collaboration

MyPrintPod was created around a simple idea: great products emerge when technical expertise, manufacturing capability, and customer insight come together from the start.

Through the MyPrintPod Co-Creation Lab, Mike works directly with founders, innovators, researchers, and businesses to transform ideas into manufacturable products.

Whether developing prototypes, refining designs for additive manufacturing, or creating low-volume production solutions, the focus is always on reducing barriers between innovation and implementation.

This collaborative approach helps customers move faster, reduce development risk, and make more informed decisions throughout the product development process.

Sustainability as a design principle

A core motivation behind MyPrintPod is the belief that manufacturing can play a positive role in addressing environmental challenges.

Mike has a longstanding interest in sustainability, circular economy principles, and responsible innovation. Under his leadership, MyPrintPod has developed processes that prioritise material efficiency, recycled materials, localised production, and circular recovery pathways wherever practical.

Rather than treating sustainability as an afterthought, the company seeks to embed environmental considerations directly into design, production, and end-of-life planning.

Supporting the next generation of innovators

Alongside his work with MyPrintPod, Mike is actively involved in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.

He serves as a business mentor at Cambridge Enterprise, part of the University of Cambridge, helping founders and early-stage ventures develop technologies with commercial and societal impact.

His mentoring interests include artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, sustainability technologies, and deep-tech innovation.

This experience provides valuable insight into the challenges faced by startups and innovation-led businesses, informing MyPrintPod's practical and collaborative approach to product development.

Technology policy and SME advocacy

Mike is also involved with the Association for Competitive Technology, supporting its work as a voice for small and medium-sized technology businesses.

Through ACT engagement, he contributes to conversations around SMEs, technology, sustainability, innovation and the conditions growing businesses need from UK government and policymakers.

A personal mission

"MyPrintPod was founded to make advanced manufacturing more accessible while helping organisations build products in a way that is smarter, more sustainable, and better aligned with the challenges of the future. We believe innovation should not be limited by manufacturing complexity, and sustainability should not be limited by cost."
